A Former Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC), David Kanga says the Commission has enough time to implement the proposal by political parties for general elections to be held in November.
All the political parties in the country agreed to the proposal and other major changes in the electoral process.
In an interview with Citi News, Mr. Kanga said the EC can implement the proposal for the 2016 general elections.
He opined that the proposal for a November election is “okay” because according to him, it will give the EC enough time to prepare for a run off if need be within the 21-day period.
Mr. Kanga added that “it will give enough time for change over to take place…it is okay and time is on our side.”
After the Supreme Court verdict on the 2012 election petition case, the Judges called for electoral reforms to address the challenges which bedeviled the 2012 election resulting in a court case.
The political parties have since agreed to work with the EC to bring about the new reforms for future elections.
