Tsatsu Tsikata must be called to order -CAF

The Citizens Awake Forum (CAF) wish to express serious concerns about a statement made by Lead Counsel for the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the just-ended election petition case, Mr. Tsatsu Tsikata on TV3’s Hot Issues programme on Saturday August 31, 2013.

Mr. Tsatsu Tsikata accused Justice Anim-Yeboah, one of the nine Supreme Court Judges that heard the matter, of allowing his political affiliations to cloud his judgment.

Mr. Tsikata said Justice Anim-Yeboah consistently took an opposing stance against the NDC’s arguments and position as far as the case was concerned, from the onset. According to him, he was not really surprised by Justice Anim-Yeboah’s persistent and consistent opposition to the stance of the NDC because he was appointed to the Supreme Court by former President John Agyekum Kufuor of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). At a time when the world is applauding Ghana for exhibiting high sense of democratic values and allowing sleeping dogs lie despite reservations some people have about the Verdict, it is unfortunate that a senior lawyer like Tsatsu Tsikata will make such a ‘war’ like statement. CAF believes that his comments can lead the country on the path of no return. Tsatsu Tsikata stirring up the hornets’ nest at this time is dangerous. Now people would be forced to make similar contemptuous and unsavoury comments about the other justices.

Per Tsatsu's obnoxious and nauseating logic, Atuguba, Akoto Bamfo, Gbadegbe, and Adinyira JSC are all NDC fanatics. Tsatsu Tsikata’s statement does not only hinder the peace process currently undertaken by the Peace Council and other Civil Society groups, but also cast a slur on the Verdict issued by the Supreme Court.

The Peace Council and all the other active civil society groups must wake up on this occasion and call Tsatsu Tsikata to order.

The judiciary must not be subjected to public ridicule and opprobrium by an individual. This unfortunate statement has the tendency of threatening the life of the said Judge.

Long live Ghana!

Long live CAF!

Signed!
