Govt issues cheques to judicial service workers ahead of SC ruling

Government has issued cheques for the payment of allowance arrears demanded by the Judicial Service Staff Association (JUSSAG) ahead of the Supreme Court judgment on the presidential election petition on Thursday August 29.

The Association had planned to call a nationwide strike on Tuesday August 20, before the judgment, due to what they call an abuse of trust by government for failing to pay allowances that have been outstanding for more than a year.

The President of the Association, Francis Brakwa, had warned the planned strike will definitely disrupt the sitting of the Supreme Court.

But the Finance Ministry has released monies to pay the arrears to avert any strike.

Mr. Brakwa who confirmed this to JOY NEWS said except for their clothing allowance all the arrears have been paid.

He added that the association has given government up to the end of Monday to pay the remaining allowance before they will take a decision to call off the planned strike.
