Deliver the state of your party not the Nation – Gen. Mosquito

The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has advised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs to deliver the state of their party to the country instead of their version of the current state of the nation.

The NPP MPs on Wednesday delivered to Ghanaians what they termed ‘the true state of the nation’s address’ in which they stated that Ghanaians are subsidizing the inefficiencies of the NDC government.

According to them, the government has been busy praising itself for maintaining single digit inflation instead of dealing with the crisis Ghanaians are facing.

The NPP’s address follows President John Mahama’s delivery of his first state of the nation’s address in which the NPP legislators boycotted due to the party’s election petition which is pending at the Supreme Court.

The party after the President’s address indicated that the address failed to represent the true state of the nation.

However, speaking to Citi FM, the General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia also known as General Mosquito, stated that the NPP has no right to demand accountability from President John Mahama which is what their state of the nation’s address sought to do.

“I think that you would advise them to deliver a state of their party; the NPP party’s address and not the state of the nation address. What are they talking about? I hear them blaming the President for not doing this, for not doing that; which President are they talking about?”

He added saying, “I thought the NPP said there is no President in Ghana? So why are they demanding accountability from the President who does not exist?”

Mr. Nketia advised the NPP legislators that the place for debating the state of the nation is in Parliament because the President made the delivery in Parliament.

“They would better be advised to go on the floor of Parliament and canvass those arguments and they will meet the counter argument.”

In a related development, the Convention People’s Party (CPP) has also described the NPP as lacking the moral authority to also present their state of the nation address after neglecting their responsibilities in Parliament.

The Communication Director of the CPP, Nii Armah Akomfra told Citi News, the NPP “on one hand, they did not want to participate in Parliament on what was going on but now they want to comment on it. They lack the moral authority."

He accused them of taking “the housing allowance, when it comes to food, they collected; when it comes to salaries, they’ve collected and who exactly are they representing, who are they talking for and who are they talking to?”
