Wereko-Brobbey is a traitor - Sammy Awuku

A Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Awuku has described Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobbey as a traitor and pleaded with all party supporters to ignore him.

Dr. Wereko-Brobbey on the Citi Breakfast show, Wednesday edition among other allegations insinuated that the NPP had been reduced to Twi party.

In a sharp rebuttal, Sammy Awuku said Dr. Wereko-Brobbey’s destructive battle had been exposed but that the NPP was ready to face him squarely.

“Dr. Wereko-Brobbey is treading on dangerous grounds, dangerous grounds because now he has moved beyond just criticizing the party’s leadership, he has moved beyond just ostracizing himself and now going into the area of inciting tribal sentiments.”

According him, the former VRA Chief Executive Officer has been struggling to gain cheap popularity with his recent attacks on the party he (Wereko Brobbey) claims to be a member.

“I think that this is very reprehensible and his comments are very offensive; for Dr. Wereko-Brobbey to say that the NPP is now a Twi party, I really don’t get where he is coming from.”

“The party made strong and significant gains in the northern region winning 10 constituencies in the last elections, ask him at which point in our party’s history since 1992 have we won 10 constituencies in the northern region," he queried.

Sammy Awuku maintained that Dr. Wereko-Brobbey will not be allowed to destroy the image of the NPP.

“Dr. Wereko-Brobbey now doesn’t mean well for the party, first people felt that he was only offering constructive criticisms but now listening to some of his comments and monitoring his conduct it is only clear that he wants to press the destructive button within the party.”

He regretted that Dr. Wereko-Brobbey occupied sensitive positions during the erstwhile Kufuor led NPP administration even though he (Wereko Brobbey) doubted then candidate J.A Kufuor’s credibility to win the 2000 elections.

“In the year 2000 when he abandoned the ship and said the party can never win any elections, insulted then candidate J.A Kufuor left right centre, God in his own wisdom granted the NPP victory in the year 2000 and Dr. Wereko-Brobbey subsequently occupied juicy positions within the party and I do recall even at a point when some of our national officers visited him when he was the head of the Ghana at 50 Secretariat, he said he was a CPP member and not NPP member.”

Sammy Awuku fumed, “All the magnanimity that we have shown him, our generosity, now he is stubbing us in the back but what we can tell him is this time round, people will not do the dirty job for him to come back and occupy juicy positions again.”
