President John Mahama deserves commendation for the kind of appointments he has made so far, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, General Secretary of the governing NDC has asserted.
He explained on Joy FM’s Top Story Friday that the President has lived to his promise to be a father for all by appointing people, irrespective of their political inclinations and backgrounds, to serve under his administration – technocrats and seasoned politicians.
“The thing that amuses about some Ghanaian is that when the President promises to be a president for all, then everybody appears to be amused; but when action is being taken to translate that promise into reality, then people begin asking why is it that this person is not NDC and he’s part of it.
“These are the same people who will be saying the president promised to be father for all and now he is doing winner takes it all… I think it is rather an occasion that we should congratulate the President that he is walking his talk of trying to build a government that represents everybody.”
He also parried claims that the appointments by President Mahama have not been consultative enough.
Mr Asiedu Nketiah insisted the appointments were done in consultation with the party, noting “we cannot go and distance ourselves from work that is jointly produced by all of us”.
He said persons peddling that information are not frontline NDC members but largely outsiders who “lack information”, and therefore wondered why persons, whom, supposedly should be affected, are rather not complaining.
“You need to keep confidentiality before the announcement comes,” he observed: “Again when you have outsiders from the party who go shouting from rooftops that NDC people have not been consulted, when they themselves are not NDC people and the NDC people who are to be consulted are not speaking, then I don’t think that they are being fair to the president.”
