Be Focused And United- Mahama Charges Ghanaians

President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday climaxed the 2012 National Democratic Congress campaign with a call on Ghanaians and all supporters of the party to maintain focus and unity to win Friday’s elections.

He also dedicated this year’s NDC campaign to the late President John Evans Atta Mills, who he said had committed his heart towards the growth and development of the party.

President Mahama made this call at the final rally organized by the party to wind up the two-month long campaign that took the leadership of the party through the length and breadth of the country to solicit the mandate of the electorate.

Dressed in party colors, the party supporters who thronged the La Trade Fair Centre for the final campaign rally sang and danced to campaign songs composed by various artistes for the campaign.

The Security was also tight to ensure that the campaign was free from violence and other kinds of misconduct.

President Mahama urged the supporters to use the same focus exhibited during the campaigns to police the polls and remain vigilant to ensure total victory for the NDC.

He said government had discharged its duties towards the elections by providing necessary logistics for the Electoral Commission and by equipping the security services to execute their duties before, during and after the elections.

The President explained that the four years was used to build a solid foundation and the next four years would be used cement that foundation to provide better growth and development for Ghanaians.

President John Mahama said the education programme of the NDC was solid and verifiable throughout the country and appealed to the supporters to avoid the untenable promises of the political opponents as the country was not ready for an educational disaster.

He said apart from education, creation of jobs, tourism and energy generation were major initiatives that would empower Ghanaians in the coming years.

The President commended all the various groups and supporting clubs that had campaigned across the country and promised them a victory celebration after the elections.

Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur said the people of the Central Region had expressed satisfaction at the performance of the NDC and would vote massively for them in the Friday polls.

He appealed to the electorate to conduct their campaigns devoid of violence and other forms of misconduct as the NDC had over the years been labeled as the most peaceful political party in the country.

Vice President Amissah Arthur said the NDC is an all inclusive party, which had over the years gained more disciples on daily basis.

Mr Ofosu Ampofo, Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, announced that government would elevate Koforidua, Sunyani and Techiman to metropolitan status after the elections to speed up the development of the country.

He appealed to the electorate to give the NDC another opportunity to complete the projects that were initiated by the Mills/Mahama administration saying “if Former Presidents Jerry John Rawlings and John Agyekum Kufuor were each given eight years, then ideally Mahama deserves another four year term too.”

Mr Ampofo said it was only the NDC government that had provided electricity on the entire stretch of the Accra-Tema road and would do better in the next four years.

Dr Kwabena Adjei, Chairman of the NDC, appealed to all supporters and sympathizers to be vigilant on the voting day as their opponents were capable of doing unacceptable things to win elections at all cost.
