Napo arrested over Ashtown gunshots

The NPP Member of Parliament for Manhyia Matthew Opoku Prempeh was Friday arrested by the Ashanti Regional Police Command.

Two people sustained gun wounds when the MP went to Abirem near Ashtown on his house-to-house campaign when a member of his team whose name was given as Gausu allegedly fired gunshots wounding one Maphus and the sister. A group following the MP were said to have again pounced on Maphus and inflicted severe cutlass wounds on him.

Maphus was rushed to the Accident and Emergency Centre of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital on Thursday.

He has since undergone plastic surgery and currently at a stable condition at the male surgical ward, doctors told Nhyira FM’s Ohemeng Tawiah.

Maphus mother had told the police there was a longstanding dispute between the son and Gausu. According to the Regional Commander DCOP Augustine Gyening, the police is treating the case as a purely criminal one.

The MP for Manhyia Matthew Opoku Prempeh popularly known as Napo was arrested and later granted bail after his caution statement was taken.
