Fake fertilisers on the Ghanaian market

A new study has revealed that some fertilizers available on the local market do not meet the required standards.

The fertilizers do not have the correct proportions of required nutrients.

The findings were consistent with a similar study conducted eight years ago on fertilizers in selected West African countries.

Dr Kofi Debrah of the International Fertilizer Development Centre, told XYZ Business “the fertilisers you see in the market, even though they actually have a label about what it is, if you really do the analysis you will find something different.”

He described as cheating the situation where the information written on the bags are different from what is contained in the fertilisers.

Dr Debrah says this has serious implications for food production in the country and called on appropriate authorities to ensure that the situation is brought under control.
