Ashaiman chiefs threaten demo over 'seized' lands

Chiefs in Ashaiman are threatening to demonstrate if government fails to release their lands to them.

A central government has failed to hand over the lands to the Municipal Assembly for developmental projects.

They say several years after the lands were taken away; no project has been undertaken on the lands.

According to the traditional council in the area, until government is ready to use the lands, they must be reversed back to their original owners for other projects.

A member of the traditional council Christian Ofei Marteye in an interview with XYZ News said the chiefs will embark on massive demonstration if the lands are not returned.

“Currently the residence of the Municipal Chief Executive is a rented place…some of the Police stations are even rented so we are just appealing to them.

“If we talk to all the reliable people and we don’t hear anything all we have to do is to hit the streets and then make a little noise and maybe through the noise people will hear.

“If Ashaiman people are not heard then when it reaches the time of voting they shouldn’t think of Ashaiman people”.
