GHALCA Top 4 cancelled

Footy-ghana.com can confirm that the Ghana League Clubs Association has cancelled the annual Top 4 competition.

According to our well-placed sources, the decision was taken after a marathon meeting held by the GHALCA top hierarchy yesterday.

Footy-ghana.com understands that GHALCA has serious challenges with sponsorship for the competition, which prevented it from committing to pay the four participating clubs lump sums to prepare for the competition.

Due to these challenges, a press launch for the competition which was scheduled for Thursday September 6 was cancelled at the last minute, but GHALCA executives were still confident that the competition was still taking place.

Asante Kotoko, Ashanti Gold, Hearts of Oak and Medeama SC were the four participating teams had the competition been allowed to come on.

It had been scheduled to kick off on September 16 2012, but following the cancellation, GHALCA might offer official backing to a potential 'Super 2' clash between Ghana's two biggest clubs, Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak.
