Kofi Adams Threatens Court Action...

Kofi Adams, the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has threatened legal action against the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the party for what he says is despicable abuse of power.

His threat follows a decision by the FEC to extend the suspension of Mr. Adams by 30 days after the expiration of the first 90 days suspension slapped on him.

Mr. Adams was suspended after a leaked tape with a voice purported to be his, was heard in a discussion with another man believed to be Gabby Otchere Darko of the NPP saying he will do everything possible to prevent President John Mills from securing the mandate of Ghanaians for a second term in the December 7, General Elections.

On the tape, the man who sounded like Mr. Adams expressed his frustration at the defeat of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, wife of former President Rawlings who contested against President Mills.

The party, following the revelation, directed the Disciplinary Committee to commence investigations into the matter but Mr. Adams has consistently maintained his innocence.

The party executives also gave the indication that he will only be reinstated after he has been cleared in a full scale investigation being conducted by the Disciplinary Committee of the NDC.

Mr Adams dragged the party to court after his suspension was announced, but in May, an Accra High Court directed Mr. Adams and the party to settle the matter out of court. The judge said Mr. Adams must go and settle the matter with his colleagues by resorting to an alternative dispute resolution.

In an interview with Joy FM on Monday, Mr Adams threatened to seek redress from the courts. He accused the executives of taking an unjustified decision against him and warned that if the party fails to rescind its decision in due course, he would have to resort to the law courts.

“I will go to court again because that is where I believe that Justice will be done,” he said adding “FEC does not have the mandate to extend the suspension when they are not the body that took that decision to suspend me in the first place”.
