MP Denies Fake Cheque Allegations

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Kade Constituency in the Eastern Region, Hon. Ofosu Asamoah has strongly denied allegations he has issued fake cheque to the chiefs and people of Larbikrom in the Kwaebibirim district in the Eastern Region.

The Al- Hajj in our Tuesday June 19, 2012 edition reported that a member of the communication team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Eastern Region, Mr. Oliver Kevor alleging the Honourable MP issued a fake cheque to the Chiefs and people of Larbikrom during a fund raising ceremony in aid of building a KVIP for the community in May 2011.

Mr. Oliver Kevor made the allegations on Koforidua-based Emakk Fm’s afternoon political radio programme on June 14, 2012.
However, Hon. Ofosu Asamoah, who walked into our office, last Tuesday clutching the purported fake cheque to explain his side of the matter, asked our editor, “please is this a forged cheque? How can one issue a forge cheque that belongs to him or her”?
The Kade legislature pointed out that the cheque in question was issued in the name of a community and not an individual so how could the assembly man have cashed it when it is supposed to belong to a community.
According to the MP, the cheque he issued was not meant to be cashed as it was agreed among organizers because many people make pledges they do not redeem. The people are now skeptical of pledges so therefore, if he could issue ‘something’ to convince the gathering, hence the issuance of his personal cheque in the sum of GHS600.00 pending the redemption of his pledge of 50 bags of cement.
Hon. Ofosu Asamoah explains that after the occasion, he travelled outside Ghana and on his return, he entirely forgot about his pledge; until his attention was drawn to it sometime in October/November last year upon which he presented the community with GHS590.00, the equivalent of 50 bags of cement.
The MP further explains that he has since provided the community with another thirty (30) bags of cement in addition to the cash amount of GH590 he gave them.
Mr. Ofosu Asamoah blamed the assembly man of masterminding this whole unfortunate impression and said these are all orchestrated attempts to stain his hard earned reputation and also to score cheap political points.
