MTN sues NLA over ban on 'Dream Big’ Promo

MTN Ghana has filed a suit at an Accra Fast Track High Court challenging the authority of the National Lotteries Authority to bar it from going on with the recently launched “MTN Dream Big” Promo.

The telecom firm filed for an order of Qua Warranto and for an injunction on April 5 to prevent the NLA from stopping the ‘MTN Dream Big’ Promo.

The court subsequently granted the injunction while hearing on the order of Qua Warranto proceeded.

MTN launched the ‘Dream Big’ promotion on March 26, giving the chance to customers to send SMS to short code 2020 at a premium rate of 75 pesewas per SMS.

Customers therefore stood a chance of winning 10,000 cedis daily and two cars at the end of the 100-day promo.

The company got approval from the Ghana Gaming Commission to run the promo, but the NLA wrote to MTN asking it to stop the promo or collaborate with the NLA Section 4, Act 722.**
