NDC Northern Regional Office burnt down

Tamale, March 29,GNA- Angry youth suspected to belong to the National Democratic Congress in Tamale on Monday burnt down the Northern Regional and Constituency offices of the party following the acquittal of persons accused of murdering Ya-na Yakubu Andani. An Accra fast track high court on Tuesday acquitted and discharged the 15 people standing trail for the murder of the late Ya-na Yakubu Andani and his elders.

The irate youth believed to be members of the Andani Gate who were displeased with the court's ruling, angrily rushed to the party's quarters after hearing the ruling on radio at about 17:30 GMT and without any provocation, vandalized and set the party's office ablaze, destroying almost everything in the office but for the intervention of the Fire Service.

Some of the items burnt included; official documents and files, tables and chairs and other paraphernalia belonging to the party claiming that the NDC had let them down for its inability to find the killers of the Dagbon King.

None of the Party Executives was available for comments. Meanwhile, the GNA spotted a bill board close to the Tamale Teaching Hospital bearing pictures of President Atta Mills and Haruna Iddrisu, Minister of Communications and Member of Parliament for Tamale South being burnt by some of the irate youth.

The burning of the party's regional office comes on the heels of a press conference organized by some members of the party including Alhaji Abubakari Harunah, NDC Tamale Central Constituency Propaganda Secretary who warned President Mills and the other MPs of the party to cancel their intended trip to the Metropolis.

He indicated that the President and the party had failed to fulfil their promise of finding the killers of the murderers of the Ya Na on whose claim the NDC was voted for in the region adding that members of the Andani had lost faith in the ruling government. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Caeser Abanga, Tamale Metropolitan Police Commander, who was spotted at the vandalized NDC Regional Office in mufti, said he heard about the incidence while in the house and quickly rushed down to see things for himself.

He said so far no arrest had been made but indicated that investigations would be carried out to bring the perpetrators to book adding that his men were being mobilized to prevent further destruction of property and to maintain law and order in the Metropolis.

Meanwhile reports also reaching the GNA from Yendi indicated that members of the Abudu gate have been jubilating over the acquittal and discharge of their family members who were accused for the murder of the late Yana and his elders. 29 March 11
