General News of Wednesday, 9 February 2011
The Ghana Highway Authority will close down the Adomi Bridge to traffic tomorrow, Wednesday, February 8, to pave way for survey works ahead of its rehabilitation.
This follows the arrival of Australian engineers who will be undertaking the survey for rehabilitation works on the bridge.
The closure of the bridge was scheduled for early January but was postponed due to the failure of the foreign engineers to arrive as planned.
From tomorrow, drivers plying the route from the Northern region and the northern portions of the Volta region will have to divert through the Asikuma-Ho-Adidome route to Sogakofe before continuing to or from Accra.
Director of Bridges of the Ghana Highway Authority, Owusu Sekyere Antwi told Citi News that repair works on the Adomi Bridge will be executed in three phases.
“We are closing it tomorrow, from 7am to 9 am, we close it and then 9 am to 11 am, we will open it. We will be closing it and opening it after every two hours”.
