Committee recommends removal of Director

The committee which investigated allegations of misapplication of c52million meant for research activities levelled against the Director of Industrial Research Institute (IRI), Mrs Alexandria Amoako-mensah, has recommended that she should be removed as the head of the institute.

The committee which was under the chairmanship of Professor Yanney Ewusie, among others recommended that Mrs Amoako- Mensah should refund to the institute the cost of keeping in her residence a Mitsubishi truck and a KIA saloon car from September 1994 to January 1995 at commercial hiring rates.

It follows allegations made by the Research Staff Association (RSA) of IRI against the director for using c30.79 million out of c52 million given by the government for six specific research and development projects to purchase three vehicles.

The committee upheld most of the submissions made by the RSA and further recommended that Mrs Amoako-mensah should account for or refund c2 million accountable imprest she collected for Refractory Workshop.

The committee recommended that the post of Director of the Institute should be advertised.
