Abrantie, Sarkodie Steal Show @ rLG Launch

Abrantie Amakyi Dede, the Ghanaian highlife legend, last Saturday rocked the Banquet Hall, State House, with his brand of music that has won him international acclaim in several parts of Africa, Europe, Australia and United States.

The musical concert was organized by rLG Communications, manufacturers of rLG phones, to launch its new G-series mobile phones. The launch, which was performed by the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Nii Nortey Duah, attracted a large number of personalities, including a number of local hit makers such as 4X4, Nana Boroo, R2Bees, Sarkodie, among others.

The king of African comedy, Basket Mouth, Ghana’s upcoming actress, Lydia Forson, and Naija’s Desmond Elliot, were also there to grace the occasion. At the show, Abrantie was able to charm music fans who trooped to the Banquet Hall to witness the event.

He gave out his all as he performed before business tycoons, music fans, as well as people from all walks of life. Take away the seats, and the auditorium could have been mistaken for a highlife club. The nearly 30-minute performance by the Ghanaian highlife legend truly lived up to the hype.

He kept the audience on their feet, screaming at the top of their voices, singing, and dancing along from start to finish. Backed by a 7-man band, Abrantie’s vocal ability was even better than usual. The audience couldn’t resist his performance and they demanded for more, compelling the MC for the night, Kwame Sefa Kayi, to heed to their request and let Abrantie continue performing.

Members of 4X4 were a blast; the three songs they performed were all that was needed to make a statement about the quality of their latest album. 4x4 were just “too much” as they thrilled fans with their current hits, including I want to touch your body and World Trade Centre.

Nana Boroo, whose song ‘Ahayede’ has made a mark on the music scene, also performed his heart out. The Tema based hiplife duo, R2Bees, also performed a few of their hit-songs to the satisfaction of all those were present at the launch.

Sarkodie, who wowed the audience with his fast-tempo rap, got the crowd screaming with excitement. Indeed, he proved why he is the nation’s artiste of the year. There were other fantastic performances from Ruff and Smooth and I Wan, who also spiced up the show, making it a very memorable one
