Press release on attempt to hoot at Kufour

PRESS RELEASE
In the lead up to the 27th Feb. conference of the NPP to elect leaders, there has been an interesting development and we wish to draw the attention of party members and the entire public to it.
1. Credible intelligence gathered from certain quarters within the NPP has it that, certain leading figures of the party, have an agenda to repeat the nasty incident that happened during the 2005 conference at Legon, which elected Mac Manu as Chairman, where some youth where incited to hoot at the then president of Ghana, His Excellency, John Agyekum Kufour. We wish to state that, we are uncomfortable with the situation and warning those persons to as a matter of urgency, put a stop to it. We shall resist any attempt by those groups and leaders behind this shameful act. We say to them, they are the real enemies behind the NPP and its attempt at having a united front battle ready for election 2012. If for nothing at all, he has been the only leader of our party who has been president for 2 terms. He deserves the respect and recognition as a father figure in the NPP. His indelible footsteps abound in the landscape of Ghanaian Politics
2. We wish to call for fairness in the election of party leaders. February 27th, shall determine whether the NPP shall come to power or not in 2012. Let’s allow tolerance and respect to prevail during the 1-day conference. We call on party delegates to vote the right persons as National Officers. Let us reject any form of imposition by any group or persons, be it through any form of inducement or slate handed to people during the conference. The election is meant to elect leaders to manage the affairs of NPP and not to serve anybody’s narrow self-interest
Finally, we wish to warn that we the concern youth of the party will not sit down unconcerned, as self-seeking individuals destroy our party in the pursuit of their parochial and selfish interests. Let party members rededicate themselves to the ideals that our forebearers died for; Dedication, Devotion, Discipline, Selflessness, Sacrifice, Service and Loyalty to party and country.
Long live NPP
