Bomb scare hits Tema Central Mall

Tema, Feb 18, GNA - The Tema Central Mall was on Thursday hit by a bomb scare, when an anonymous male, called the manager of the Cal Bank, located in the building, to warn of an imminent bomb blast.

According to the Police, the caller warned that a bomb would detonate at the premises between 1200 and 1400 hours.

Superintendent Victor Amedeker, Officer-in-charge of the Tema Regional Police Operations, told the Ghana News Agency at the Mall that the manager informed the Police of the call at about 0900 hours. Supt Amedeker said to ensure the safety of workers, and members of the general public visiting the Mall, he led a 15-member police team to the premises.

He indicated that his outfit also invited personnel from the Base Ammunition Depot (BAD), to assess the situation. He, however, noted that, after the three personnel from the BAD scanned the bank and other establishments located at the Mall with an explosive detector, nothing was found.

Supt Amedeker, therefore, gave the assurance that there was no need for the public to panic, as the Police were prepared to protect the general public. At about 1230 hours, when the GNA got to the Mall, Police personnel armed with guns, were stationed at vantage points searching vehicles which entering the premises.

Employees of the various establishments at the Mall went about their normal duties, with a few seen peeping through windows. Work at the Cal Bank was also normal, as customers moved in and out to transact business, while employees were well composed behind their computers.
