Information Minister, Zita Okaikoi has been explaining to Citi News, circumstances that led to former deputy Information Minister, Frank Agyekum’s invitation to the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).
Zita Okaikoi told Citi News that a letter signed from her department was issued to the Ministry of Finance for the disbursement of GHC 86,000 in settlement of amount owed a company for renovation works carried out on the ministry’s block.
She added that upon queries and subsequent investigations, it came out that the said company, Plexiform Ventures belonged to the sister in-law of former Information Minister, Stephen Asamoah Boateng.
Zita Okaikoi stated further that her investigations proved that the said deal between the Ministry and the company did not go through tender for which reason the Accountant at the Ministry refused to sign for payment of the said amount in July 2008.
According to the Information Minister, further enquiries established that the said letter was signed by the former deputy Information Minister, Frank Agyekum
As a result of the above allegations, former Deputy Information Minister, Frank Agyekum on Thursday appeared before the BNI to answer questions on the said deal between the Ministry of Information and Plexiform ventures.
Frank Agyekum’s invitation to the BNI follows earlier interrogations of former Foreign Minister, Akwasi Osei Adjei and former Chief of Staff Kojo Mpiani by the BNI.
The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the opposition NPP, Sammy Crabbe also responded to the BNI’s invitation on Thursday to answer some questions bordering on deals involving the Ghana International Airline (GIA).
