Leaders must bring change - University Don

Accra, Nov. 10, GNA - The President and Chief Executive of Regent University, Prof E. Kingsley Larbi has called on Ghanaians to be critical of those seeking the mandate for leadership at various levels of the nation's hierarchy.

He said leaders must solve problems and challenges facing the people they served and must take the people from where they are to where they ought to be.

Speaking during the school's Student Parliament handing over ceremony at the weekend, Prof. Larbi said Africa was a continent that could boast of enormous human and material resources, yet the poorest of the world's poor lived on the continent. He said this was the reason why they needed a change in their understanding of leadership, which for many people meant power, position and pedigrees.

"We must insist on quality leadership at all levels because leadership must bring result," Prof. Larbi said. He praised the student leaders for their good leadership and asked other student leaders to emulate them.

The new President of the Regent Ghana Student Parliament, Baba Seidu in his acceptance speech said they were embarking on a project called "Help the Needy" under which they would supply teaching materials for the Royal Feed Home, near Kasoa. The theme for this year's Parliament week celebration is "Consolidating Ghana Democracy: The Role of Tertiary Students."
