U.S. sailors found dead in hotel room

Two United states navy sailors were found dead on Tuesday in their hotel room, in Tema, while on shore leave in Ghana.

The cause of death was unknown and being investigated by Ghanaian authorities in cooperation with U.S. Navy officials.

Both sailors were stationed aboard the Fort McHenry, a dock landing ship conducting a port visit to Ghana as part of a U.S. naval partnership programme in West Africa.

The Fort McHenry, a 185-metre ship based in Little Creek, Virginia, is on a mission to train West African navies to fight drug smuggling and maritime security threats in a region which supplies nearly a fifth of U.S. oil imports.

The sailors' names were being withheld pending notification of relatives.
