Belgian remanded for causing harm

Accra, June 27, GNA - A Belgium national, who allegedly hit the head of a trader with a crowbar, was on Tuesday remanded into prison custody by an Accra Circuit Court.

Wilfred Boyart, who was charged for intentionally causing harm to Mr Samuel Obill, pleaded not guilty.

Boyart would reappear on July 4.

Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel Amegah told the Court that Boyart was a business partner of Mr Obill's brother-in-law, Mr Yaw Obeng, now deceased.

ASP Amegah said before the death of Mr Obeng, he and the accused had litigation over properties they owned together as business partners and the case was before another court.

The Prosecution said ay about 1600 hours on June 21 2006, Mr Obill and her sister had a telephone call that Boyart was breaking into the room of Mr Obeng.

Being the elder brother, Mr Obill accompanied his sister to the scene and on their arrival; they saw that Boyart had broken into the room.

They queried him about his conduct and this resulted into exchange of words. Suddenly Boyart and his fianc=E9e pounced on the widow. The Prosecutor said sensing danger, Mr Obill rushed to separate them but Boyart took a crowbar and hit the complainant's head resulting in a deep cut on his scalp.

ASP Amegah said the complainant bled and became unconscious. Mr Obill was rushed to the Police Hospital where he was treated.
