Withdrawal of doctors’ salary on point – Mahama

President John Mahama President John Mahama

President Mahama has said the move to deny striking doctors their August salary falls in line with the Labour laws hence it will be enforced to ensure sanity prevails.

Speaking to State broadcaster GBC Wednesday, President Mahama insisted “we are taking remedial actions , and I say they should go back,” describing the ongoing strike action by the Ghana Medical Association as illegal.

“If we don’t live by our laws we’ll go back to the jungle,” he stressed.

He questioned why doctors have sought to go on strike over their conditions of service while government is still making commitment to pay their allowances and salary.

“It’s the first time being introduced(conditions of service), so it takes a process.

“We can’t single out one group of health workers and accede to their demands; it’s not as simple as it is”

According to him, the process to finally settle them their conditions of service demands follow due steps, adding that the deal has been taken on a piece meal to ensure fairness and balance in the bid to fix the labour issues.
