UNDP Country Director lauds peaceful atmosphere in Yendi

Mr Kamil Kayode Kamaludeen, Country Director of UNDP has commended the chiefs and people of Yendi for sustaining the peace for development, stressing: “Without peace nothing meaningful can take place anywhere.”

He said peace is vital for people to work freely for their livelihood.

Mr Kamil made the commendation when he visited the Malzeri Health Centre project in the municipality, being constructed with assistance from the UNDP through sustainable housing materials.

The centre comprises maternity ward, labour ward, Out Patient Department and dispensary.

Mr Kamil advised the chiefs and people of Malzeri to adopt the innovative housing technology, which he said is cost effective.

Mr Kamil also inspected works on a local resource centre under construction with the local materials to help preserve agricultural produce.

Mr Samuel Siaw of State Housing Corporation, who conducted the Country Director around the project, which would be operated by farmers’ co-operative union, said it is furnished with shea butter extraction and processing machines, milling machine and a room for poultry products.

Mr Issah Zakaria, Municipal Chief Executive lauded the efforts of UNDP in poverty alleviation, improvement of housing, peace, food security among other interventions.

He said other communities would benefit from the sustainable housing project.

He suggested the need for UNDP to establish an institution to train people in the sustainable housing project.

Mrs Denisia Agong, Municipal Health Director said personnel have been posted to man the health centre.
