Tigo Ghana wins best communications team

As front-runners the Corporate Communications wing of Tigo Ghana limited were recognized for their rock-solid efforts in reshaping the reputation of the business and engaging with stakeholders using various strategies and tactics.

The Corporate Communications Department was formed in July 2014 with a specific mandate to help the business build on its transformation agenda.

Some of the key projects the team has worked on to build an enviable reputation for Tigo include a series engagements on network investments, products, marketing and customer operations campaigns, and most notably on the CSR front, Shelter 4 Education and the Mobile Digital Library projects.

Speaking on the team’s outstanding achievements, the Director for Corporate Affairs, Gifty Bingley said, “We are thrilled to receive this award because it reinforces the strong track record we have established for delivering compelling content, campaigns and staff engagements. We thank the Millicom Group, the Ghana Leadership team, colleagues, and projects partners for their excellent collaborative support.”

Congratulating the team on the award, the CEO for Tigo Ghana, Roshi Motman, was full of praise for the team’s contribution to Tigo Ghana’s excellent business results over the last two years. “Great teams creates great results and I am proud of the excellent achievements by Gifty and the team”, she said.

The African Excellence Awards is dedicated to recognizing the changing fortunes of businesses across Africa and honoring outstanding achievements in the field of Public Relations and Communications.

Winners were chosen based on outcomes from months of rigorous and in-depth research, careful examination of performance over the past year, methods, market and competitor reviews.

Other big winners include Fleishman Hillard as Agency of the Year, Grayling was adjudged Newcomer Agency of the Year, Safaricom in Kenya picked up Best Multi-Market Communication; the Rezidor Hotel picked up the Best Crises Communication plan for the Ebola pandemic in Sierra Leone. The Corporate Advertising Award went to Ogilvy and Mather in Namibia while Change Communication went to the Malaria Consortium in Uganda.

The 5 member team are responsible for Tigo’s external and internal communications, Social Investment and Corporate Responsibility portfolios. They have since merged with the Regulatory and Government relations team to become Corporate Affairs.
