Three arrested over smuggling of agro-chemicals

A businessman and two other people have been arrested for attempting to smuggle a large quantity of agro-chemicals to Cote d’ Ivoire.

Kouakou Mana, the businessman, Faisal Ali, a driver, and Abubakari Sadiq, driver’s mate, were on Tuesday put before the Bibiani Circuit Court and they denied the offence.

They were each granted a Ghc50,000.00 bail with a surety to make the next appearance on June 18.

Police Chief Inspector Lucky Goglomi told the court presided over by Mr. Baptist Kwadwo Filson that the accused were apprehended on May 1, at about 0300 hours.

Members of the anti-Cocoa Smuggling Task Force at Sefwi Juaboso intercepted the vehicle on which they were carrying the agro-chemicals and fertilizers at Afuakuruaa near Bonsu-Nkwanta.

The vehicle was heading towards neighbouring La Cote d’ Ivoire and it had to be escorted back to Juaboso.
