Stop endorsing insults; be relevant in Parliament – Shai Osudoku NPP to Linda Ocloo

The Shai Osudoku Constituency NPP say they are disappointed in the Member of Parliament for Shai Osudoku, Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo for endorsing the verbal assault on Lydia Seyram Alhassan by the Minority.

Instead of supporting the abuse of “a fellow widow”, the Shai Osudoku NPP have advised Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo to “make herself very relevant in Parliament” and debate on issues that will contribute to the development of her constituency and the nation at large.

The Minority NDC MPs, in protest of the swearing-in of newly elected legislator for Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency on February 5, walked out of the House amidst jeering while displaying placards with the inscription “bloody widow”.

Members of the Shai Osudoku Constituency NPP in a statement signed by their Communications Director, George Mensah Dorh, registered their displeasure with the action by the Minority which they described as shameful and inhumane.

According to the Shai Osudoku NPP, Hon Linda Obenewaa is a widow herself who also inherited her late husband’s seat and, therefore, has no moral right to endorse the insult directed at her fellow woman who is a victim of an unfortunate circumstance.

“Much credence may be given to those who haven’t experienced the demise of a love one but we find it more insulting to the people of Shai Osudoku constituency to hear our Member of parliament, Hon Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo who happens to be a widow and a beneficiary to that seat after the demise of her husband ( the late Mr. William Ocloo may his gentle soul rest in peace), endorsing and justifying this unsavory behavior when interviewed on NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’, Tuesday, February 5, 2019, endorsing it in no ambiguous terms and these were her words,” the statement reads.

The statement further adds, “Let it be known that the people of Shai Osudoku constituency are eagerly stuck to their radio and television sets to see/hear her on the floor of parliament debating on pertinent issues and to do what she has been voted for.”

They further called on the MP to render an apology to “all those affected negatively by her comments”.

PRESS RELEASE

6th February 2019

SHAI OSUDOKU CONSTITUENCY NPP CONDEMN HON. LINDA OBENEWAA AKWELEY OCLOO’S (MP. SHAI OSUDOKU ) ENDORSEMENT OVER”BLOODY WIDOW” COMMENT

The shai Osudoku NPP directorate have noted, with shame and inhumane attitude exhibited yesterday by the minority in parliament with the inscription ” BLOODY WIDOW” targeted at Madam Lydia Seyram Alhassan when she was sworn in as the Member of parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon.

Much credence may be given to those who have not experienced the demise of a loved one but we find it more insulting to the people of Shai Osudoku constituency to hear our Member of parliament, HON. LINDA OBENEWAA AKWELEY OCLOO who happens to be a widow and a beneficiary to that seat after the demise of her husband ( the late Mr. William Ocloo may his gentle soul rest in peace), endorsing and justifying this unsavory behavior when interviewed on NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’, Tuesday, February 6, 2019, endorsing it in no ambiguous terms and these were her words,

“I saw the placards but I see nothing wrong with that. The minority was just expressing their grievances on what happened during the by-election. They never attacked the woman in person,” As a widow with children same as Mama Lydia Seyram Alhassan, we expect her to exhibit some sense of compassion and to cast her mind back to the emotional trauma she went through when our dear brother(Mr.William Ocloo) passed on and the support the people of Shai Osudoku gave her in her trying times. If after all the support she got from the people of Shai Osudoku as a widow to rise to the seat of a parliamentarian and all she has to do is to denigrate a fellow widow as bloody, we live her to her conscience.

More so, she was heard on Accra FM 100.5, that she was forced to contest for the parliamentary candidate position and that, it wasn’t her desire to contest.. it is empirical to deduce from her submissions the reason for her abysmal performance as an MP and without recourse to her duties as a representative of the good people of Shai Osudoku in the legislature.

As labeling a fellow widow as bloody per her logic and explanation, she can also be classified as a violent and bloody widow per the violence that characterized their primaries.

We are humbly pleading to her that she makes herself very relevant in parliament rather than endorsing insulative languages to a fellow widow. Let it be known that the people of Shai Osudoku constituency are eagerly stuck to their radio and television sets to see/hear her on the floor of parliament debating on pertinent issues and to do what she has been voted for.

We humbly indulge her to up her intelligence on matters of politics and developmental issues. If she cares to know, the people of Shai Osudoku constituency are the most accommodating, respectful to all manner of persons especially widows and that, her comments and endorsements to the minorities inhumane act does not reflect the character of the people. She has to take into cognizance the paraphrased African proverb which states Be cautious, jumping over a fire when cotton is in your (anus) lest you get burnt. On this note,

We demand a total apology from her to all those affected negatively by her comments.

Thank you.

Long live NPP

Long live Shai Osudoku constituency.

Signed
