State Wants Ken Agyapong Back In Cells

State Prosecutors on Tuesday filed an application at the Supreme Court seeking to quash the bail granted to Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Assin North.

A motion of certiorari was filed by the state seeking to overturn a ruling by an Accra High Court that set the NPP legislator free from police custody.

The Assin North MP was hauled before court in April and slapped with treason felony, terrorism and attempted genocide charges for making treasonable comments on an Accra-based radio station, Oman FM which have been described by many as inflammatory.

The NPP firebrand was picked up by the law enforcement agencies and was released on a GH¢200,000 bail by the Fast Track High Court shortly after a Human Rights Court granted him bail on health grounds following a habeas corpus writ filed by his lawyers.

But State Prosecutors, invoked the supervisory jurisdiction of the Supreme Court to review the proceedings at the High Court, arguing that the High Court was not the appropriate forum to hear the case.

The Supreme Court has fixed the 4th of July for its ruling on the application.
