SONA: President must come clean on Heritage Fund for Free SHS – NDP

President Akufo-Addo will deliver the State of the Nation Address tomorrow President Akufo-Addo will deliver the State of the Nation Address tomorrow

The National Democratic Party (NDP) wants the President to use tomorrow’s State of the Nation Address to state his position on contradictory statements made by two ministers on the use of the Heritage Fund to finance the free senior high school policy.

The Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Marfo had suggested that the government will use the Heritage Fund, which is part of the oil proceeds being invested for generation yet unborn, to finance its flagship policy – Free SHS -, but the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta said that is not something the government is looking at.

The General Secretary of the NDP, Alhaji Mohammed Frimpong was emphatic that such contradictions will not help the nation.

“We shall listen to what the President will say about the contradictions by the Senior Minister and Finance Minister on the Heritage Fund,” he remarked.

Mr. Frimpong was contributing to discussions on Onua FM’s Yen Nsempa hosted by Bright Asempa on tomorrow’s State of the Nation Address by President Akufo-Addo.

The address would be the first for Nana Akufo-Addo. Ahead of the delivery, Yen Nsempa sought the expectations and views of the various political parties.

The NDP scribe said “we should know the real state of the nation. Debts owe by the nation must also be made known to us. If it does not happen like that, the president is digging his own grave”.

Mr. Frimpong said education in particular should be the government’s priority “because that is what we are all waiting to see what they will do about it”.

He added that agriculture, unemployment especially among the youth, and food security must also be the priority of the government.
