SIC Educate Workers On Retirement Benfits

Akim Oda (E/R), June 24, - The management of the Akim Oda district branch of the State Insurance Corporation (SIC) has embarked on a campaign to educate workers on retirement and the income benefits policy. The programme is aimed at making them aware of the existence of such policies, which when taken, will enable them to plan their future towards retirement. They have so far briefed workers and teachers at the Akim Oda Attafuah Senior Sechodary/Technical and Oda Secondary Schools. Mr Kom Meyir Kunfah, Akim Oda district branch manager of the SIC, called on workers to plan their future well to avoid becoming destitutes after retirement. He observed that because of lack of proper planning, most people tend to stay too long on their jobs. Mr Kunfah reminded workers that they cannot rely solely on benefits from the Social Security and national Insurance Trust (SSNIT) pension scheme. Mr Roger Agbadi, senior marketing officer, urged workers to take SIC retirement policies which are operated for a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 20 years saying after two years, one can take a loan with an interest rate of just seven per cent. Mr Fred Opoku, assistant headmaster of the Oda Secondary school, chaired the function.
