The Ghana Railway Company Limited, as part of measures to recommence operations on the Accra to Nsawam rail line, is conducting a series of test runs on the stretch.

The test according to the company, is to check and correct defects on the tracks before officially commencing operations.

Today's run which had onboard members of the media as part of sensitisation efforts by the company was almost a success until the train derailed about two miles away from Nsawam; Chinto to be specific , where the 3rd coach attached to the train derailed from the tracks.

The accident however did not cause any injuries even though it had to take engineers onboard the train over an hour to get the train back on track for the journey to continue.

Madam Comfort Awinye, who is the Traffic Manager of the company, speaking to the media after the incident, described the derailment as a minor one and assured that the test run will ensure the rectification of defects along the tracks to ensure maximum safety when full operations begin.

The GRCL suspended operations on the Accra-Nsawam stretch somewhere in October 2017 due to the deplorable nature of the tracks. Almost two years along the line, the tracks have been reconstructed for operations to recommence.
