Protest Letter To Mills

Fuiga Agbeve And Adika Drafor Lineages Of The Adzorvia Royal Family Of Anlo
Afegame, Yorxoenu, Anloga, P.O Box 51, Anloga V/Region, Ghana

His Excellency Prof. John Evans Atta-Mills
The President of the Republic of Ghana
Office of the President, Castle, Osu, Accra

Your Excellency,

RE: THREATS FROM THE NATIONAL SECURITY COORDINATOR, COL. (RTD) GBEVLO-LARTEY TO THE FUIGA AGBEVE AND ADIKA DRAFOR ROYAL HOUSEHOLDS OF ANLO IN THE MATTER OF THE AWOAMEFIA DISPUTE.

On behalf of Lt. Col. (rtd) Courage Togobo, ourselves, our teeming lineage members and all well-meaning Anlos and Ghanaians, we would like to vehemently protest the clear intervention of the National Security into the Anlo Awoamefia dispute and now the ongoing court case against those charged for contempt of court. This is in clear violation of the Constitution of Ghana.

We have already called for investigations, in our Petition to you, into how the Police and the National Security personnel got involved into carrying out the illegal and purported installation of Mr Patrick Agboba as the Awoamefia of Anlo on 21st February 2011.

We would, in addition, like to express our dismay and utter disgust at what transpired in the office of the National Security Coordinator on 19th April 2011. On the said day, Lt. Col.(rtd) Courage Togobo honoured an invitation by Col.(rtd.) Gbevlo-Lartey to appear before him. Upon reaching his office at about twelve noon, without any show of curtsies whatsoever, he was rudely spoken to; told that the government “leadership” has ordered that he should withdraw the case before the Fast Track Court and deal with whatever issues he had with the purported installation of the Awoamefia privately and out of the public domain. He was told in threatening tones to “advise himself”. Col. (rtd.) Gbevlo-Lartey then walked out on the parties but not before the Petition to you was given to him and told in response that the said “leadership” of your government should advise itself about the laws and Constitution of Ghana and the customs and traditions of Anlo. We would like to put on written record that we identify with those sentiments.

We consider this development as a clear attempt to intimidate us into silence. We wish to state unambiguously that Lt. Col. (rtd.) Togobo is simply our messenger acting on behalf of all of us in the pending law suit. Any attack on him is thus an attack on all of us and we shall not take it lying down. We would therefore like to appeal to you to order a halt to further intimidation and threats against his person, and any other persons involved in this case, by the National Security forces and the Police.

We trust that good sense and decorum shall prevail in this case and the laws of the country shall be allowed to prevail.

We continue to wish you good health and strength in the governance of this country in these difficult days.

Long live Anlo, long live Ghana.

Signed on behalf of the Fuiga Agbeve and Adika Drafor lineages.
