The police in Tema resorted to the firing of gas on angry youth in an area called U-Town at Tema New Town during a stand-off between the youth and the police Tuesday morning.

The youth attacked the police for allegedly killing one of their colleagues last night.

A local reporter, Henry Budu Arthur told Onua FM’s Yen Nsempa on Tuesday that a police patrol team yesterday shot and killed a suspected armed robber in the area.

The youth claimed the suspect was not an armed robber and therefore mounted a fierce attack on the police, which the police responded with tear gas.

The tension in the area is rising, Henry observed, compelling schools around to close down as vehicular traffic continue to build up.

Some main roads have been blocked by the angry youth who have broken bottles, the reporter said.

Henry said some people have been injured in the process have been rushed to hospital.

Unconfirmed report suggests that some kids who inhaled the tear gas have collapsed.
