Oye Lithur should not head the Children’s Ministry - Sherita Frimpomaa

The 2012 Vice Presidential candidate of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Sherita Frimpomaa Kumakuma has advised President John Mahama to exclude the Children aspect of the Ministry for Gender, Children and Social Protection if Nana Oye Lithur will be endorsed as Minister.

According to her, if Nana Oye Lithur is made to head all the three sections of the Ministry, it will be a “clear endorsement of her position”, on gay rights.

Mrs. Lithur has come under severe criticism and opposition following her nomination by the President as Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection due to her stance on gay rights.

Madam Kumakuma is however of the opinion that although Mrs. Lithur is “very capable” for the position, “the Children’s Ministry should not be put under her because…we haven’t gone through the mill to come to the point where we want to accept this or accept that.”

She explained that if she is endorsed, the youth who have gay tendencies are possibly practicing it “will now think that it is an okay thing to do and I personally think that we have gone through a position where a large chunk of our people have reached certain positions and so they should not put Nana Oye Lithur as the Minister in a Children’s Ministry.”
