Ohene Agyekum Raids Radio Station

GHANA’S AMBASSADOR to the United States, Daniel Ohene Agyekum, is in the news for bad reasons, as he is being accused of storming the studios of Kapital Radio in Kumasi to threaten a New Patriotic Party (NPP) man who passed a comment about him.

Nana Boakye, ex-TESCON president of KNUST and a member of the NPP Ashanti Regional Communications Team claimed he was whisked away by Good Samaritans before Mr Agyekum could possibly hurt him.

The NPP official disclosed that the incident happened on Friday afternoon, insisting that he reported the matter to the Ridge Police after he managed to leave Kapital Radio premises.

He said during a show aired on Kapital Radio, hosted by Kwadwo Marfo, he descended heavily on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in particular Mr Agyekum for beating and later calling for the arrest of a man who had burnt an NDC flag.

Nana Boakye said he also slammed Joseph Yammin, the Ashanti regional secretary of the NDC, who was at the studio, for threatening to prevent minors that had managed to register from voting on the Election Day.

The NPP official said he then labelled Mr. Agyekum and Joseph Yammin as posing a threat to the peace of Kumasi, adding that Yammin who was at the studios, debated with him over the matter, in a peaceful fashion.

Nana Boakye said minutes after the show came to a close, the Ghana Ambassador to the US invaded the studios of the station in the company of four ‘macho’ men.

He claimed Ohene Agyekum, in an angry mood, enquired from him why he mentioned his name during the show, adding that the other panel members on the show hurriedly came to his rescue, preventing Mr Agyekum from hurting him.

Nana Boakye noted he threatened him that if he continued passing foul comments about him, NPP faithful in the city would come and find his dead body in the studios.

Nana Boakye said upon leaving the studios, he was met by four muscular men who had accompanied Ohene Agyekum and they threatened to manhandle him if he dared flex his muscles in their presence.

He claimed that the actions of the NDC hoodlums caught the attention of several people who rushed to the scene, adding that the large crowd that trooped to the scene prevented the NDC men from assaulting him.

Nana Boakye said the NDC had adopted intimidation and threats on the lives of people to put fear in NPP faithful so that they could not go out in numbers and campaign for the party.

He said he was not bothered about the threats on his life by Mr Agyekum, urging other NPP supporters not to pay attention to the NDC threats and rather campaign vigorously for the party to win the polls.

Meanwhile, Kwadwo Marfo, host of the programme on Kapital Radio has flatly debunked Nana Boakye’s claims that Mr Agyekum threatened him at the studio.

According to him, Mr Agyekum, Mr. Yammin and Nana Boakye had a friendly discussion about the issue, stressing that Ohene Agyekum did to at any point threaten to assault the NPP man.

He urged politicians to always speak the truth and shun peddling falsehoods about their colleagues in different political parties to help sustain peace and unity in the country.
