Napo stirs Konkomba anger against NPP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Manhyia Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Mathew Opoku Prempeh (Napo), has stirred trouble against his party as the Kokomba community is angry with it for claims that they (Konkombas) and others from other parts of Northern Ghana have been recruited to stage violence on Friday’s elections.

‘’The Herald’’ is informed that Kokomba chiefs and other people intend holding a press conference later today, to demand evidence pertaining to the claim of a certain Lt. Colonel (rtd) Ababio Srebour, who identified himself as the head of the NPP Security Committee or make him render an unqualified apology to the Konkombas.

Lt. Colonel (rtd) Srebour, had claimed that certain National Democratic Congress (NDC) members were stockpiling arms with the intent to create chaos on Friday’s polls, adding that some NDC operatives have procured fake indelible ink to encourage multiple voting and that a medical doctor at the Dansoman Polyclinic and his cousin have been tasked to recruit Kokomba boys from the Northern Region to spread confusion in Kumasi.

The NPP head of security, made the claims in reaction to the shooting incident in which a hooligan linked to the Manhyia MP, shot and wounded a NDC supporter at Ashtown-Kumasi. The injured man is presently in hospital paralyzed.

Lt. Colonel (rtd) Srebour also claimed that utility operators were plotting a nationwide blackout at exactly 7pm on Election Day when results are being collated.

He reported the NPP’s intelligence uncovered evidence that Yaw Boateng Gyan, the National Organiser of the NDC, as well as Dr. Stephen Opuni and others were training personnel from around the country to destabilize elections in areas loyal to the NPP, a charge Dr. Stephen Opuni, the Food and Drugs Board (FDB) boss has strongly denied.

He pointed out that the people supporting this nefarious and clandestine training were obligated by the Constitution to protect the people.

He also claimed that the NDC had tasked persons with heavy duty vehicles to run over any vehicle covered with or hoisting NPP paraphernalia and that about 500 boxes of ballot papers had been hidden in the residence of a doctor at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

Mr. Srebour therefore called on all Ghanaians, especially the police and NPP functionaries, to be vigilant and safeguard the integrity of the elections.

Dr. Opuni, who was mentioned by Lt. Colonel (rtd) Srebour, as one of some functionaries of the governing NDC, plotting Election Day mayhem in NPP strongholds, has denied the claim and asked the ex-soldier to have his head examined.

In an interview with Joy News on Monday, Dr. Opuni suggested that such allegations could only be made by a mentally challenged person.

Reacting to these allegations, Dr. Opuni questioned Srebour’s sanity on the grounds that it is only the Ghana Armed Forces that train soldiers.

“Soldiers are trained by the military, so may be that person has lost his way from the psychiatric hospital, and we should look for him and send him back for psychiatric evaluation and treatment.”said Dr. Opuni

Dr. Opuni believes that the NPP is resorting to such allegations because they know they have lost the election in advance due to the popularity of President John Mahama and the NDC’s ‘’Better Ghana Agenda’’.

Touching on the apparently threatening text messages sent to him by the NPP MP, Dr. Opuni said that upon receiving the first message, he tried to call Opoku Prempeh for clarification but his calls were rejected.

He said he later received another text message from the same person allegedly threatening his life and those of his family.

Dr. Opuni said that he has reported the issue to the police because it is a criminal offence to threaten somebody.

Dr Prempeh is reported to at his age divorced two wives already and these women according to information suffered the wrath of the legislator who is supposed to make laws against domestic violence. One of the women, The Herald is informed, is related to Mr. Kojo Bonsu of ‘Agoo Magazine’ and the sportswear, Adidas, fame.

In one of his usual beating adventure, The Herald has learnt that he beat and threw implements at one of his wives in the full glare of a colleague MP, wife name withheld.

Friends of his say he is being groomed to be the NPP presidential candidate by ex-president John Kufuor, should the venture with Alan Akyeremanten (Alan Cash) botch.
