Johnson Asiedu Nketia - NDC General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia - NDC General Secretary

General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress [NDC], Johnson Asiedu Nketia has said the opposition New Patriotic Party [NPP] must be cautious of speaking against the appointment of new Electoral Commission boss.

According to him, utterances from the opposition party tells that – “they [NPP] are against women empowerment”.

The appointment of the Chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Charlotte Osei as new Electoral Commission (EC) boss has generated a lot of controversy across the country.

Many, including members the opposition NPP, have argued that her affiliation with the NDC puts her in a compromised position which they claim might affect her work in 2016.

Speaking on OKAY FM’s "Ade Akye Abia" morning show, ‘General Mosquito’ as known in politics opined that even though the EC Boss was appointed by President John Mahama – “she cannot rig the election for the NDC”.

However, Asiedu Nketia’s colleague and former chief scribe of the NPP, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie rebut arguments that the NPP is against women empowerment.

Christened ‘Sir John’ in politics, he told OKAY FM’s morning show host, Kwame Nkrumah, that “Asiedu Nketia’s claim is false”.

He noted that it is untrue that the NPP is anti-women empowerment, insisting that – “the NDC until recently never liked women in power. The records are there”.

According to Sir John, irrespective of the new EC boss appointment by the president, she [Charlotte Osei] must show professionalism in her work come 2016.
