NPP gives thanks to God

Kumasi, Feb. 28, GNA - Former President John Agyekum Kufour, on Sunday led the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to attend a thanksgiving church service at the Adum Wesley Cathedral in Kumasi to show appreciation to God for a successful Delegates' Congress held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Mr Jake Okanta Obetsebi-Lamptey, the newly-elected National Chairman, Mr Peter Mac Manu, immediate-past National Chairman, Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the 2008 Flagbearer of the party, Mr Alan Kyeremanten, a leading member of the party, as well as other party candidates who won and lost elections at the Congress were in attendance.

The one-day Congress saw over 4,000 delegates from all the 230 Constituencies voting to choose new national executives to lead the party for a four-year term.

Preaching the sermon, Right Reverend Professor Osei Safo-Kantanka, Methodist Bishop of Kumasi charged politicians and leaders of the nation to always seek the welfare of the masses in their endeavours.

He said they should also ensure transparency, accountability and good governance to foster social harmony and progress of the nation. The Methodist Bishop stated that Ghana should be thankful to God for the relative peace being enjoyed, adding "this was the only way He would continue to shower his blessings on the nation".

Right Reverend Safo-Kantanka also commended the NPP for a successful Congress and urged the new executives to be committed to duty. He was optimistic that the old executives would work in close collaboration with the new ones to foster continuity and unity in the interest of the party's development.

Former President Kufour said the recent Congress was crucial in the aspirations of the party and called on supporters, activists and leaders to work assiduously and bring the party back to power in the 2012 elections. He affirmed his unflinching support for the new executives and advised them to work within the confines of the party's constitution.

The Former President described the NPP as a vibrant and pro-poor party, which had the welfare of the masses at heart, and observed that the new executives should bring their knowledge and expertise to bear on the party to brighten its chances in the next elections.

Mr Obetsebi-Lamptey thanked the delegates for electing them into office and promised that they would be focused in their activities. 28 Feb. 10
