NPP consults with PNC on new voters register

Kwabena Agyepong - NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong - NPP General Secretary

The General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Kwabena Agyepong has begun what he terms ‘consultative meetings’ with other political parties on the need for a new and fresh register as the 2016 general election approaches.

In a meeting held at the national Headquarters of the People's National Convention Party (PNC), he called on the party to support the call for a new register as it was the only way to restore confidence in the country’s electoral system.

The NPP chief scribe said "A fresh registration will go a long way to rebuild public confidence in the electoral process", emphasizing that "this is essential for the successful conduct of a peaceful, free and fair election in 2016".

On his part, the General Secretary of the PNC, Mr. Bernard Mornah stated that, the visit was historic as this was the first time that a General Secretary of another political party was visiting.

He stated that the PNC was committed to ensuring a more credible electioneering process, and gave the assurance that the matter will be discussed thoroughly at the party’s National Executive Committee level.

Mr Agyepong used the occasion to wish the party well as they prepare for their congress in October this year.

Present at the meeting were National and Constituency officials of the PNC.
