Black Stars midfielder Mubarak Wakaso marked his Panathinaikos debut with an important 1-0 win over Swedish side AIK Solna in the Uefa Europa League play-offs on Thursday evening at the Apostolos Nikolaidis stadium, Athens, Greece.

The former Las Palmas midfield man who was handed a starting role by manager Andrea Stramaccioni, saw yellow for a bookable offence in the 59th minute and was taken off in the 71st minute for Leto.

The 26-year-old was unfortunate not to have scored earlier in the game after several attempts on target were denied leaving Brazilian defender Rodrigo Moledo to score the only goal of the game in the 79th minute.

Ghanaian duo of Ebenezer Ofori and Patrick Kpozo however suffered on the losing side despite starting and playing the entire duration of the game for AIK.

Wakaso’s Panathinaikos will have to fight hard to protect their slim lead when they travel to Sweden for the reverse fixture against Ebenezer Ofori and Patrick Kpozo’s AIK.
