Minority challenge on energy crisis childish - Dr. Kwabena Donkor

Former Deputy Energy Minister under President John Atta Mills Dr. Kwabena Donkor has said that New Patriotic Party (NPP) criticisms of President John Mahama’s efforts to mitigate the energy crisis are “childish and useless.”

The minority caucus in parliament challenged government to tell Ghanaians the extent of investments made in the energy sector in the past four years.

The minority claimed that apart from adding two megawatts of power via solar plants in Navorongo, Upper East Region, very little has been done to improve power generation.

Speaking on Adom and Asempa FM’s 'Dea Mehunu' programme Wednesday, Dr. Donkor said the late President Mills promised that his administration would increase generating capacity to 5,000 megawatts in the medium term but would not generate an additional 5,000 megawatts as the minority claimed.

Dr. Donkor said that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government is on course to deliver on its energy promise.

“The majority will defeat the minority on the floor of parliament on energy issues by moral, sound scientific and economic arguments,” he declared.

Meanwhile, Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei, a former Minister of State at the Finance Ministry in the erstwhile John Agyekum Kufuor administration, has blamed the current power crisis to what he termed as governmnet's poor managment of the sector.
