Mentally ill man inflicts cutlass wounds on father

A 26-years-old mental patient at Tema Community One, Site 17, has inflicted cutlass wounds on his 70-years-old father for allegedly neglecting his welfare.

Abdul Razark Issah Alhassan, a herdsman is currently in the grips of the Tema Community One District Police, while his father, Mr Issah Alhassan is responding to treatment at the Port Clinic.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Juliana Obeng, Tema Police Regional Police Public Relations Officer, briefing the media, said Madam Hawa Issah, mother of Alhassan rushed to the Community One Police to inform them about the incident on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at about 1130 hours.

ASP Obeng explained that the victim sustained cutlass wounds on the head and other parts of the body.

She stated that Alhassan also stabbed two Police Officers with a jackknife on their heads and bolted when they went to the scene to arrest him.

The two, she added, were rushed to the Tema Polyclinic where they were treated and discharged.

She said the suspect was chased and arrested with the help of some residents.

ASP Obeng stated that Alhassan who had been confirmed to be on psychiatric treatment at the Tema General Hospital Psychiatric Department, stated in his caution statement that he inflicted the wounds on his father because he had neglected him.

He is to be arraigned before court for prosecution on Thursday after investigations.
