Man, 40, arrested for defrauding patients at KATH

The authorities at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in the Ashanti region have arrested a 40–year-old man for defrauding patients on admission.

The yet-to-be identified suspect according to reports have been taking huge sums of money from the non-NHIS cardholders with the excuse of registering them under the scheme so they could be treated with dispatch.

According to StarrFMonline.com Ashanti regional correspondent, Isaac Bediako Justice, who spoke to some of the patients, the suspect charges between Gh¢200 and Gh¢300 for his services.

However, the KATH authorities became alarmed and called for his arrest after it was realised that the cards which were produced for the patients could not be recognised by the NHIS systems.

The Komfo Anokye police have reportedly opened investigations into the matter.
