President John Dramani Mahama has asked the new Governor of the Bank of Ghana to work hand-in-hand with the Minister of Finance, Seth Terkper, for the country's economic growth.

President Mahama particularly asked Dr Abdul-Nashiru Issahaku to join forces with Mr Terkper “to ensure that both fiscal and monetary policy will continue to be on track”.

The president gave the charge at the Flagstaff House on Monday, April 25 when he swore in the new governor.

Dr Issahaku, a former Deputy Governor, was named as successor of Dr Henry Kofi Wampah, who proceeded on leave at the end of March.

“We will encourage you to discharge your duties,” President Mahama stressed.

“You have already been working as part of the team since we went into the extended credit facility of the IMF.

Stabilizing macro-economy

Dr Issahaku was sworn in together with Dr Johnson Asiama, who was recently appointed a Deputy Governor to replace Dr Issahaku.

The new boss of the Central Bank insisted that their focus will be on stabilizing the economy in general.

“As a Central Bank Governor, I think our focus remains stabilizing the macro economy because we recognize that this is highly essential for economic growth and sustainable development.”

He observed that the Bank is already making progress in terms of downing inflation rate.

“We are on a positive trajectory and we are traveling northwards. The indicators are beginning to look good.”
