Mahama appoints Prof. Salifu as NCTE boss

President John Dramani Mahama on the advice of the Public Services Commission, has appointed Professor Mohammed Salifu as the Executive Secretary of the National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE).

Prof. Salifu was until his appointment Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (2010-2014).

A brief profile obtained by the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Friday indicates that Prof. Salifu obtained a PhD in Transport Engineering from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, United Kingdom in 2002.

He also holds a Master of Science Degree in Civil/Highway Engineering from Moscow State Automobile and Road Technical University (MADI), Russia.

His post-qualification working career has been in the tertiary sector, as Senior Research Scientist at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) (1996-2003).

Principal Research Scientist, CSIR (2004-2006), Head of Traffic and Transportation, Engineering Division, CSIR (2004-2006) and Manager and Lead Researcher, National Accident Management Project, (2004-2006).

He has attended several courses, seminars, workshops and conferences variously as resource person, speaker or participant.

The NCTE was established by NCTE Act 1993, (Act 454) to oversee the proper administration of institutions designated as institutions of tertiary education in Ghana and to advise the Minister of Education on the development of the institutions.
