John Mahama will win the 2012 elections – Rawlings

Former President Jerry John Rawlings says he is confident that President John Mahama would win the general elections in December.

According to the founder of the National Democratic Congress, President Mahama since taking over from late President John Evans Atta Mills, has revived the chances of party by showing exemplary leadership.

He said this when addressing the Volta Regional House of Chiefs in Ho on Wednesday.

To him, President Mahama has rekindled the rank and file of the party and proven beyond doubt that he can succeed as President.

“Something positive has no doubt emerged of late. Prior to the demise of our late President, there was a lot of nervousness; there was a lot of anxiety amongst the governing party about how much of a chance they stood in the forthcoming election.

“The emergence of John Mahama has also added a spark to the governing party and therefore reduced the old fear and anxiety; in other words, he has brought on board possibility of also winning the election”, he affirmed.

He further described the death of late President Mills as divine intervention, which would propel the NDC to greater heights.

“Divine intervention created a great deal of goodwill for President Mahama on his (referring to late President Mills) demise and also public sympathy also served a fine purpose in helping to ignite the hope within the party”, the outspoken leader asserted.

Relationship between the former President and the leadership of the party has been frosty since the NDC won power in 2008.

He disagreed with late President Mills on issues of policy and described some of his senior appointees as “greedy bustards”, a statement which sparked serious controversy among party bigwigs.
