Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan is hoping to be fit enough to lead the country's charge to the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The Shanghai SIPG attacker endured a frustrating season due to recurrent injuries.

Concerns have been raised about the fitness of the former Sunderland hitman as he reaches the twilight of his career.

There are fears he may not be in good physical condition ahead of the group stage of the qualifiers which starts in October next year.

But the Black Stars captain is hopeful he will be fit enough to lead the country to Russia 2018.

It will depend on my condition. Talking about physically, I am alright. I feel strong and I am praying to the almighty God that I stay fit till we qualify to the World Cup because I dont know for now. I am praying to be injury free, Gyan said.

Veteran coach JE Sarpong has urged the Ghana FA to start planning life without the ageing iconic superstar.
