Ghana defender Harrison Afful says he joined the MLS to challenge himself as a professional footballer.

The 29-year-old turned out to be an instant hit in his first term with Columbus Crew.

Afful helped the Yellows to the Eastern Conference title.

Columbus Crew however lost the MLS Cup final to Portland Timbers.

Afful in explaining why he ditched many offers from European clubs for life in the MLS, says he wanted to challenge himself.

“I knew what I was coming here to do. I knew what the expectations were before I got here,” he added.

“I knew it was a big challenge for me, but I’m someone who likes challenges.

“When it comes my way, I just have to stay on my feet and show that I can deliver on the field.”

Afful played 14 games for Columbus Crew despite moving to the US for the second half of the season.
